Description

The City of Boulder’s Department of Communication is seeking a motivated and versatile intern to assist with photography, videography and digital storytelling. The City of Boulder has been recognized nationally for its innovative use of social media and the web to serve residents. This is an exciting opportunity to build your portfolio and gain experience with a government that leverages both new and traditional communication platforms to engage its community. From open space to environmental stewardship, the student selected will learn about the local government’s role in shaping Boulder and help tell that story to the public.

The city utilizes social media, video hosting platforms, its website and Boulder 8 TV to distribute a wide range of video content.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• With direction from city staff, independently shooting, editing and completing photo and video assignments.
• Assisting departments across the city by taking photos and videos of:
- city and city-sponsored events;
- city facilities, parks and open space;
- city programs and services; and
- city staff behind-the-scenes.
• Working with the City Narrative Team, Social Media Video Collaboration and other work groups to generate ideas for digital storytelling that align with city communication objectives.
• Creating photo galleries for social media and the city website.
• Creating short, engaging videos for social media and the city website.
• Assisting with writing, editing and developing content for social media and the city website to accompany photos or videos.
• Assisting with live streaming city events, including Tube to Work Day.
• Assisting Video Services with studio and on-location shoots.
• Creating graphics and infographics to support digital storytelling efforts.
• Developing training materials, templates and best practices for photography and videography projects.
• Uploading and adding metadata to videos on YouTube and Vimeo.
• Uploading and adding metadata to photos on the city’s multimedia asset management system.
• Identifying and soliciting community content that aligns with city communication priorities and can be leveraged across social networks.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Currently enrolled as undergraduate, recently graduated or graduate student.
• Pursuing or obtained a degree in communications, journalism, visual communication, web design, graphic design or related field.
• Exemplary oral and written communication skills.
• Acute attention to detail and organization.
• Familiarity with popular and emerging social networks.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Strong time management skills; ability to manage multiple projects at once, prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Ability to engage a variety of stakeholders and speak and listen to diverse viewpoints.
• An independent, proactive attitude and ability to work well alone or as part of a team.
• Willingness and ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours as requested.

• Experience with photography and videography.

• Experience with social media in a professional setting.
