Communications Intern

Description
The City of Boulder Department of Climate Initiatives is seeking a communication intern to assist in communication on sustainability and climate action in Boulder. The position will support the department's communication team in developing web content, digital content, graphics and social media to support the city's Climate Mobilization Action Plan efforts. 

Examples of Duties
  • Participates in climate department meetings to learn about the city's climate work and department priorities
  • Meets with communication staff to learn about the role of government communication
  • Develops draft web and social media content to support climate and communication goals
  • Attends relevant council meetings to learn about local governance
  • Prepares twice-monthly draft email marketing to interested community members
  • Helps implement communication plan
  • Drafts press releases to promote sustainability, air quality, and climate actions and policy
  • Supports engagement work by attending city and community events as a representative of the city

Qualifications
  • Journalism, English, ENVS, Political Science, Marketing Major/Minor, preferred (other majors will be considered)
  • Interest in local government
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
  • Experience with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Spark, etc.)
  • Experience with writing for web and social media
  • Knowledge of climate issues and solutions
  • Photography skills preferred

The candidate is passionate about climate issues and has the writing and communication skills to develop clear and concise content for web, social media and print that is accessible to all our community. The candidate is familiar with graphic design principles and is able to quickly develop professional-quality deliverables for public dissemination. Finally, this candidate is a creative team-player who is ready to contribute in a government setting.
