Summer Field Internship - American Civil Liberties Union ACLU (CU PIIE)

Position Title: Summer 2020 Field Intern

Host Organization: American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)



Description:
Assist with planning and executing of various events including: informational town halls, outreach events (examples include: Pride events, summer festivals, movie screenings, etc.), and Know Your Rights workshops
Helps coordinate pre-event logistics as needed (ex: packing of supplies, printing)
Helps coordinate volunteers (scheduling, reminder calls, training and follow up after event)
Helps to plan and execute canvasses, phone/text banks, protests, rallies and any other field event
Help mobilize our ACLU activists through action alerts, newsletters, and social media
Assist the legal team as necessary, including with initial intake, follow-up investigation and interviews on potential ACLU legal matters, and research and investigation related to policy issues
Data entry after events
Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. A positive, confident, professional and outgoing presentation. Fluency in Spanish preferred.
Commitment to the mission of the ACLU and the advancement of civil rights and civil liberties for all people.
A commitment to diversity; a personal approach that values the individual and respects differences of race, ethnicity, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, religion, ability, and socio-economic circumstance.
Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends. Willingness to travel within the state.
Proficiency with computers: Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.
The field intern will report directly to the Field Director and is expected to work a minimum of 30 hours a week.
