Position Title:

Program/Policy Support Internship

Host Organization:

Chef Ann Foundation

Description

Depending on the number of interns (we can accommodate 1, 2 or 3), the student will participate in one or a combination of the three roles described.

Organization overview: The Chef Ann Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit working to ensure that school food professionals have the resources, funding, and support they need to provide fresh, healthy, delicious, cook-from-scratch meals that support the health of children and our planet. To date, we’ve reached more than 14,000 schools and 3.4 million kids with healthy school programming. (1) The LunchBox (TLB) is an online toolkit that provides school districts with the tools and resources they need to transform their school food program from processed heat and serve food, to meals cooked from scratch. Get Schools Cooking (GSC) is an intensive 3-year assessment and strategic planning program that provides school districts with comprehensive support to transition from heat and serve to scratch cook operational model. The Chef Ann Foundation seeks support from an intern for the web-based program The LunchBox and for the Get Schools Cooking Program in the summer of 2024. The work will include supporting the organization in conducting an analysis of tools and resources available on The Lunch Box, researching and creating resources for a new web page designated for culturally relevant meals, planning a kickoff workshop for a new cohort participating in Get Schools Cooking, and creating a marketing plan to promote successes of the Get Schools Cooking program.

(2) Chef Ann Foundation’s Healthy School Food Pathway (HSFP) program is a work-based learning experience that aims to prepare individuals for job opportunities in healthy, scratch-cook school food programs. Supporting workforce readiness and professional growth for new, incumbent, and displaced school food operators, the pipeline from entry-level positions through management and culminating in school food leadership offers professionals the resources, hands-on training, and network to become confident leaders that have in-depth knowledge and experience in creating and running successful scratch-cook meal programs. The Chef Ann Foundation seeks support from an intern to assist in participant recruitment for the Pre-Apprenticeship program. Responsibilities include: Providing support to Director of Recruitment for CA Workforce Programs, especially through the management of the recruitment calendar and schedule; Assist recruitment team with event & travel planning and preparations; Ensure recruitment marketing pieces are current and up to date for scheduled events; Assist with the organization, planning and execution of cultivating relationships with area feeder schools and other community partners; Support with applicant and lead tracking; Research to identify potential partners and events that could support recruitment efforts.

 (3) Knowledge is power! We’ve seen firsthand how information about healthy food and cooking can change entire school communities, but it starts with key stakeholders and policymakers understanding the challenges of the school food system and where to focus on change to bring about healthy, fresh, delicious, scratch-cooked food for every student. In addition to direct programmatic work, Chef Ann Foundation participates in policy and/or advocacy related research and writing activities including the cultivation and maintenance of effective partnerships necessary to advance the scratch cooking in schools movement. The Chef Ann Foundation seeks support from an intern to assist the Sr. Director of Policy & Advocacy in researching national and state policy issues and developing plans to address them, including identification and outreach to key stakeholders. This role will need to effectively communicate with and synthesize information for a variety of stakeholders including school district operations, community partners and nongovernmental organizations, and federal, state and local policymakers.
