Radio News Production Intern

Description

The News Production Intern will help write and produce audio content for KGNU’s News Department. This position can include a variety of on and off air duties, including writing for and production of the morning and afternoon headlines, newscast hosting, underwriting and PSA voiceovers, interviewing, audio editing and features production. Off air work may include posting to the kgnu.org web site, social media engagement, photo editing or graphic design and or local reporting projects. This position will work closely with the News Department team.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Ideal for journalism students, but also open to those with communications, political science, sociology, science and Spanish language backgrounds. Some journalism experience, either in newsrooms or through journalism classes News media literacy - keeps up-to-date on the news Ability to reliably show up to a fast-paced early morning shift Ability to work collaboratively with a team, and to thrive with a constant feedback loop Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced newsroom.

Ideal candidates should have a willingness to learn, embrace constructive feedback/edits and have a love for local journalism. We always appreciate people who are creative and have an eye for detail. We are interested in soft skills, as we are willing and able to teach you how to do the more technical work.

Shifts start at 6:30AM and require focused mental clarity at an early hour. Good time management is crucial and much of the work requires broadcast clock punctuality.
