Engineering Intern / App Development MVP
🚀 Lowkey Engineering Intern (MVP iOS App Builder)
Â
About Us
At Lowkey, we're building the modern safety net for mental and physical health — one designed for the messy, real world we actually live in. Imagine a smart wellness protector — like a smoke alarm, but for your well-being.
We’re creating what we desperately wish existed: a discreet, real-time early warning system that passively detects when something’s off and quietly taps you or your trusted Care Circle to step in — no constant check-ins, no awkward questions, no judgment. Just love + tech.
Right now, our MVP is live and working on Replit — scrappy but mighty. Now it’s time to level up: polish it, secure it, and get it into people’s hands at scale.
That’s where you come in. 🔥
About the Role
We are seeking an Engineering Intern with strong computer science fundamentals to help us bring the Lowkey MVP to deployment readiness. Our current prototype is hosted on Replit and needs upgrading for production-grade performance, privacy compliance, and deployment to scalable environments like AWS or Vercel. This is a hands-on opportunity to work directly with our CEO on a mission-driven product.
What You’ll Do
- Help us clean up, refactor, and improve our MVP code so it's ready for real-world users
- Work with mobile APIs (iOS - 1st Android - 2nd) to pull passive health + behavior data (activity, sleep, device use, etc.)
- Strengthen data privacy, encryption, and user control (GDPR-ish level)
- Build out real-time alerting and Care Circle notifications
- Help us pick the right stack for deployment (AWS? Vercel? Your call, we’re listening)
- Move fast, learn a ton, and make a real difference
We're looking for a scrappy full-stack mobile developer who can:
- Build both the backend services (Node.js, Firebase, or similar) and
- Front-end mobile app (preferably using React Native or Flutter)
You should be comfortable shipping an MVP fast, setting up backend infrastructure, and preparing the iOS app for App Store submission.
Required:
- You know your way around IOS full-stack devÂ
- Have Full-stack experience (backend + mobile app UI)
- Are proficient in React Native OR Flutter proficiency (cross-platform)
- Can manage basic DevOps (setup for AWS, GCP, or Firebase hosting)
- Experience submitting apps to the App Store
- You get API integrations, basic database ops, and basic security (encryption, auth flows)
- You have a start-up mindset, not someone who needs a perfect spec document to get moving. (Comfortable working independently at an early-stage startup pace)
Bonus Point:
- Firebase experience (auth, Firestore, cloud functions)
- Exposure to mental health or wellness apps
- You’ve built mobile health apps and used Test Flight before
Details
- 🏡 Remote (U.S. based preferred)
- đź’¸ School credit if needed. Yes, this is our way of saying unpaid, but this is a great opportunity to make the world a better place.
- 📆 Flexible start date — Summer/Fall 2025 ideal
- 🌱 Massive potential for growth (we’re building the next essential safety device for families)
Why You Might Love This
- Real product impact — not "go update Jira tickets" intern work
- Direct mentorship from tech founders who've actually builtÂ
- We’re mission-driven but not preachy — just trying to make the world better, one alert at a time
- Possibility for full-time offers or founding team role as we scale
- And yeah... we’re fun. ✌️
