What I liked

I enjoyed the industry and the senior level support. The projects I worked on were fairly engaging.

What I wish was different

Credit Risk Summery Analyst

May - July 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I was able to learn a lot of technical skills through this internship. I got a lot better with Excel which was great and I learned more about how to understand deal sheets and the internal processes of how deals form. I also got better at looking at valuations and models. The people at Goldman are great and I was able to ask a lot of questions and get help when needed. The support system was great.

What I wish was different

The work for me wasn't extremely interesting, even though I was learning a lot. It was a lot of sitting at my desk looking at models and deal sheets, but there wasn't a lot of client interaction or site visits. I think this environment is good for some people, but for me I wanted a more interactive and dynamic environment.

Advice

I would say ask a lot of questions. People are often scared to ask questions but that is how you learn. It also shows that you are thinking about the projects deeply and care about learning more.

Don’t overlook the regional office experience! Not being in headquarters means that the deal teams are smaller, so you get lots of responsibility as an intern.
